OK, I may be biased as an exhibitor but The Other Art Fair is one of the best places to buy contemporary art, especially as you meet the artists and get to know them. I’ve come a long way in being able to talk about my work; only a few years ago I found it really […]
One-minute blog of interesting things
The Japanese House exhibition at The Barbican
On till the 25th June, The Japanese House: Architecture & Life after 1945 is an immersive exhibition where you not only see models and plans of houses (see images below) but also experience a full scale reconstruction of a Japanese home with rooms scattered around garden spaces. The different theories and architectural practice are fascinating in a country […]
Korean Craft & Design Foundation KCDF at Collect
Korean craftsmanship is deservedly famous throughout the world and you can see why from some of the ceramics shown on the Korean Craft & Design Foundation stand at Collect, the annual international makers’ show in London. Lee Jong-Min can produce no more than 10-12 of these delicate pieces per year. To be honest that sounds like a lot […]
At the Affordable Art Fair – 2 of 2
These small, intimate portraits by Nathan Ford and shown by Beaux Arts in Bath stood out from the visual noise. Apologies for the white dashes of strip lighting reflected in the glass frames. I also enjoyed seeing new smaller work by Robinson & McMahon on the One Church Street stand.
Art at The Affordable Art Fair – Battersea – 1 of 2
There’s always something to discover at the Affordable Art Fair with the Battersea show no exception. Regular exhibitor FOUR_WALLS showed work by Sam Lock which stopped me in my tracks. Working on both paper and canvas his paintings are so evocative. Harriet Hoult’s paintings at ArtDog were very different with a kind of focused meandering.
Silver from Bishopsland at Collect, the Saatchi Gallery.
Bishopsland Educational Trust provides silversmiths with an opportunity to develop their practice with their post graduate residential course. The resulting work is always worth seeing and this time included necklaces by Lucie Gledhill and this silver wire piece by Nan Nan Liu.Some of my work includes silver leaf gilding and I’m currently experimenting with the […]
2 Temple Place, another hidden gem in London.
A friend tipped me off about this building as it is rarely open to the public. 2 Temple Place was built in the 1890s by William Astor, arguably the world’s wealthiest man at that time. He planned it as his estate office with, as may be seen, no expense spared. The cherubs by the front door are completely […]
Glass by Heike Brachlow at Bullseye Projects seen at Collect, Saatchi Gallery
I was blown away by this stand from first -time US exhibitor Bullseye Projects and interested to learn that the sculpture shown was by UK -based Heike Brachlow. I keep returning to the adjective of purity when describing work that I am drawn to. Her sculpture is anything but simple however it has a clarity of intent that is unwavering. […]
Purity and minimalism at Collect, seen at the Saatchi Gallery.
Yes, I know it’s circles again but bear with me. This textile piece by Shihoko Fukumoto at ARTCOURT Gallery is, for me at least, an exercise in meditation The french word épuré (uncluttered) captures for me the pure nature of these pieces. Stripped down to the simplest elements they are exquisitely made with nothing intruding as a […]
ME by Melia London hotel
If you’re interested in architecture then you’ll enjoy the atrium at the ME by Melia hotel in Aldwych, London. They have a light show there every evening at 8pm but, to be honest, it’s worth a visit at any time. Running from the first floor up through the entire building to the Radio Bar on the […]
