Light Calligraphy by Julien Breton

Light Calligraphy by Julien Breton

04/11/2011

I was impressed by the beauty and impermanence of Julien Breton aka Kalaam’s work which recently popped into my in box. He combines a style of calligraphy, inspired by hip-hop, french, arabic, chinese and japanese culminating in a hybrid script. He started with paper then moved onto computers and light using bodies to create the […]

Very different ceramics – Penkridge at Origin

01/11/2011

Sometimes things are just wonderfully made. They don’t need to be hugely designed or modern, brilliant quality works just as well. Penkridge were set up in 1984 and are considered the best in their field which is, as you can see, realistic reproductions of fruit, vegetables and nuts. These photos should give you an idea. Yes, […]

Derek Wilson ceramics seen at Origin

28/10/2011

Derek Wilson has an austerity of form rarely seen in contemporary handmade tableware; his celadon teacups are a delight and were really refreshing to see at Origin. Ornella Stocco

25/10/2011

Ornella Stocco has created Underconstruction, using decorated porcelain joints to make wooden scaffolding furniture, seen at Designers Block. Porcelain is seen as a delicate and fragile material but can be in fact be pretty strong.   Creativity is shared between her components and your imagination so begin playing for flexible living.

Super Design – Ghost furniture by Studio Drift

21/10/2011

Another exhibitor at Super Design was Studio Drift with the ethereal Ghost collection. These are plexiglass block chairs and tables with tiny bubbly “ectoplasm” forming another chair or table inside. It’s as if the inner piece is protected from the vicissitudes of the outside world by the plexiglass casement. Visit their site to see more lyrical work. […]

Super Design – Diamond Shot by David Roux-Fouillet

18/10/2011

Super Design took place at the same time as Frieze again this year. We were lucky enough to witness a demonstration of David Roux-Fouillet‘s  rifle idea for setting jewellery at the launch party. The concept of a bespoke gift produced from a killing machine is intriguing to put it mildly. Here are my images of the […]
