Here is another brand developing beyond its established historical base. I’ve always admired the quality of Meissen and was interested to see their new home collection launched at Maison & Objet this autumn.
Note the 18th Century shapes for this tea set but in 21st Century metallic finishes.
Using motifs from their archive of 60,000 designs and colours spanning the 300 year history of the German porcelain house could have been bewildering so their creative director, Markus Hilzinger, selected seven colours and only a small amount of classic imagery including the famous crossed sabres.
Leather cushions with hand painted traditional Chinese horsemen, another recurring design.
The crossed sabre motif is echoed in the porcelain chandelier above.
This home collection, with its mid-20th Century feel, is the epitome of easy to live with, well-bred luxury.
