Recessions are invariably a time of creative energy. I love learning of new initiatives and this one is close to my heart as it concerns the connection of skilled makers with the commercial market.
The New Craftsmen was set up in 2012 by Mark Henderson, Natalie Melton and Catherine Lock. They are currently to be found at The Garage on Adams Row, just round the corner from the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair, showing items from 40 craftspeople sourced from around the British Isles..
As you can see, these range from furniture to textiles, lighting, tableware, leather and these beautiful scissors by Ernest Wright & Sons. Regular readers will also recognise the ceramics of Stuart Carey and Nicola Tassie, featured back in December 2012.
The space is open till the end of September with related events taking place over the summer so call in if you’re in the area.There are treasures to be discovered here for immediate purchase or commission.
