Although the Chocolate Factory is very local to me, I’d never been before so made the most of their open studios last weekend. There are 25 artists, designers and makers based there and it was a delight to explore this varied creative community. Here’s a small selection of the work I saw in no order of preference.
First off is Andrew McDonald, a New Zealander now settled in London. This piece was painted only a few weeks ago and shows a change of direction. I found the optimism in it appealing as well as the dynamic mark-making.
Catherine Hennessy, an architect as well as artist, showed vibrant works on paper as well as her sketchbooks, diaries of daily activity. You can see that drawing is fundamental to her life
Jeweller Lina Peterson creates bright and extremely wearable pieces with a Nordic sensibility. She should do a project with fashion brand COS.
This photo of Wesley Triggs‘ studio doesn’t reflect his work accurately so please visit his website to get a better idea. He did apologise for not being there.
Even I was very tempted by lots of stuff for sale at really reasonable prices so sign up to their mailing list for future events. .
