We are lucky in London to now have several Zaha Hadid designed buildings to visit and this, the Roca showroom and exhibition space at Chelsea Harbour, is one of them.During my visit I heard from the architectural team about the project’s challenges, not least that it took twice as long to build than average due to being on the ground floor of an existing residential block. The constraints of height, number of existing columns, location, all added to the interest of the design itself which, based on the nature of water, has very few straight lines. Each of the over 200 internal panels is different and had to be transported by truck from Germany with its casting mould due to the high risk of breakage en route. Blame those potholes. The result, as you can see, is impressive.
Lighting, furniture and shelving all evoke water droplets with matt grey, matt white and reflective fixtures providing the main textural interest and the foil for the bathroom products. Love this little alcove with its shelves. A view from the Armani display area out into the main spaceEven the glass wall of the meeting room is curved.
An ever-changing digital display of bathroom components on the wall…and look at these fabulous floor tiles. The showroom is well worth visiting if you’re sourcing for a new bathroom or just for a look around.
