ME by Melia London is due to open officially on the 6th January so my visit to the Radio Roof Bar last week (and the accompanying snaps) are just a taster.
I love seeing it jut out into the Strand like the prow of an ocean liner; Foster+Partners have improved on the original structure whilst keeping its inherent character. This is the first time they’ve done the interior design of a hotel and, from what I saw it works pretty well. Yes, of course it is very architectural and a little stark but it suits the place.
We passed through the lobby where undulating arrangements of steel rods gave tantalising glimpses of activities beyond then went straight up to the Radio Roof Bar with its truly staggering views.
Even though it isn’t that high you still get to see so many landmarks due to the location and the terrace itself is generous with different areas for a variety of activities.
The Suite ME, an eyrie, was still unfinished but the part we saw really benefits from those views and may be accessed from the terrace.
I predict this bar will be mobbed as soon as it’s properly open. I for one will definitely be visiting again.
