Starwood’s limited service brand ALoft launched in the UK about 18 months ago. I visited the Excel London one last week as I was in the area for the May Design Series.
Aloft is inspired by the W brand with the idea of a social space at the bar (fireplace and pool table as standard), an emphasis on the local music scene and quite cool design for travellers on a budget.
As it’s right by a conference centre they’ve fine-tuned it for the location. Practical touches include an iron & ironing board in each room as well as laundry facilities downstairs. So handy for business trips lasting longer than a couple of days.
There’s a mirror-walled swimming pool as well as a gym, great for de-stressing after being at a show or conference all day.
The rooms have very comfortable-looking beds and relaxing views out over the water. The staff I encountered were friendly, relaxed and efficient so a good experience all-round. Expect to see more appearing around the UK soon.
