Eric Tong, the founder of Eravolution set up last year has devised a technique he calls honeycomb which is cheap, lightweight and strong: all qualities from the original bee structure but replicated in wood. It is additionally renewable and biodegradable being made from native birch.
The chairs were launched at Tent last year and more products are expected soon.
I tried the lounge chair at the Neville Johnson showroom launch. It’s actually very comfortable and makes a lovely sound as the birch honeycomb moves under one’s weight feeling almost like a massage chair. Just don’t wear a fragile fabric or tights as they might catch.
