Imagine my surprise when I received an invitation to try out the new Travelodge bedroom, being installed nation-wide.The offer of a night testing the king-sized bed by Sleepeeze Ltd. more often found in luxury hotels was too good to miss so off I went to the Covent Garden branch with my toothbrush and booking reference.
The room was larger than I expected and the bed was indeed very comfortable, with a firm mattress softened by a topper, conducive to a good night’s sleep. I was surprised at the level of street noise despite deep double glazing (the room was on the ground floor facing Drury Lane) but my ever-present earplugs came into play so I was fine.
Being of a practical nature I was pleased to see four available powerpoints in the room and a generously sized ledge above the washbasin, leaving plenty of space for toiletries.
The essential tea and coffee-making facilities were there as well as a bottle-opener under the desk.
I have to confess that I have never been in a Travelodge before, let alone stayed at one so this was a first. I was pleasantly surprised to find a buzzing cafe/bar for residents just by the check-in area and commend the staff who were all extremely helpful, even when it came to parking my bicycle overnight (there is no official bike parking here).
So, if you just need somewhere to sleep and shower then this is a pretty good choice.
