I was amazed to see this when catching up on the wonderful BBC series Life Story and just had to put my TV on pause to record these images of the work the male Japanese pufferfish undertakes to attract a mate.
The dark point right in the middle in the photo above is the fish. It can take anything from 3 days to a week for it to create this land sculpture on the sea floor, 13 metres below the surface.

Hi Caroline,
I am writing a book about some meta-structures of mind as they appear in humans and animals. The photo of the spectacular pattern made by the pufferfish is a strong proof that our mind and the animal’s share a lot in common. I would like to use this photo in my book but so far failed to find who owns the copyright.
Can you help me on this please?

Dear Tsion, The images originated from the BBC programme – I took photos from the freeze-frames on my TV – so I suggest you contact the programme makers at the BBC. The link is here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02d63qf . I hope that answers your question. Interesting theory you have about abstract art though I don’t agree with you at all.
