The Ryder is a small project space in Bethnal Green and I was able to attend a recent private view for their Performed Painting exhibition. As you can see from the images below, the show looks at the act and enactment of painting. Is it action painting or our idea of action painting?
The Spanish artists exhibiting included Ferran Gisbert, whose piece below had been produced just before I arrived
Vicky Uslé’s paintings, whose subtlety and delicacy is in no way shown in my photo below, uses the brush stroke to record movement as dance. These pieces deserve a close and attentive look.
Rosana Antoli’s practice combines dance and painting. In this instance she performed her response to Yves Klein’s Antrophometries .
I was struck at the end of her performance by the relationship between both works.
