The artist Bob & Roberta Smith is standing against Michael Gove in Surrey Heath this forthcoming election. I went to Handel Street Projects to listen to his election manifesto.
He began by singing the piece above saying why he’ll be voting; I’m with him on that as with everything else.
The cards on the mantelpiece are by other artists including David Shrigley and Jeremy Deller
He addressed the same points as other candidates: the NHS, immigration, employment as well as education including relevant facts that politicians seem to ignore: for every £1 of public investment in the arts, there is a return of £4, with the creative industries in this country contributing £71.5 billion to the economy. Where is the sense then on denigrating and cutting back on art education and funding?
Other pieces in the “Why I Am So Angry” show don’t need any explanation from me
