It’s all in full swing so , before I dash off to another bunch of shows, here are a few snapshots of makers seen in the wonderful space of Designersblock at the Oxo Tower Wharf on the South Bank :
Hendzel and Hunt design and make bespoke furniture from reclaimed wood and other waste materials found near their studio in London SE15. This differs from much of what I have recently seen bythe use of traditional cabinet-making techniques to produce highly finished pieces which still show their history. Visit the Bluebird shop on the King’s Road SW3 to see their table – it has a tree growing from the table top. Lovely piece. For those who can’t, here’s a picture.
Back at the Oxo Building they have stools and a table on show.
Imogen Luddy, a recent graduate from the RCA was also there with her lovely laser cut and embroidered pieces.
I’ve mentioned her before and she’s going from strength to strength. The pieces combine technology with tradition in ways which can be subservsive but which can also be very commercial.
The show is on till Sunday so go if you can.
