Crafted: Makers of The Exceptional is organised by Walpole, an association dedicated to developing and promoting the British luxury industry. The exhibition was to show this year’s intake of makers selected for business mentoring as well as the “class” who had completed their course.
I found it extremely interesting, in particular seeing the organisations who had completed their business mentoring. I realised that some of them had already popped up on my radar at trade shows or in print.
The lovely Cumbria Crystal featured in an earlier post is a case in point.
Gillies Jones are makers whose work I would expect to see at Collect. One of the partners, Kate Jones, was talking to a potential client when I walked past.
The new makers (pre-business mentoring) were in a different room where one of the very few practitioners of copper wheel engraving, Heather Gillespie, showed a couple of pieces demonstrating her artistry in this craft, perfected during her time in the Czech Republic.
