I have to share this wonderful poetic piece by London Fieldworks. It is of course purely theoretical – the poor little birds would fall out of most of these houses.
Important note – birds will only nest in boxes made from our native wood. I was told this by a UK birdhouse designer and builder. Good news for local manufacturers.
Yet more to follow…

Very untrue. Birds will nest in any number of birdboxes. From plastic to aluminum to corragated coroplast plastics. Sparrows and starlings will nest in just about any cavity that has a suitable entrance. More important is nest site requirements. Just google the specific bird you are trying to attract and follow nesting guidlines.

Thanks for that. I was only talking about wood, not other materials; it was a bird box maker who told me that only native wood would do it as opposed to imported woods.
