Arthur Analts’ Money bowls and a Stairway to Heaven

22/06/2012

These useful and witty pieces really appealed when I saw them at the House of Detention at Clerkenwell Design Festival.

Latvian designer Arthur Analts, now based in London, showed these bowls made from shredded UK Sterling bank notes. You can choose either the 28cm diameter one (made from £1,000) or the larger 50cm diameter (£3,000) for all your domestic needs. They don’t have a flat base so can be spun around like a top, symbolising the instability of currency rates these days. Go for Latvian lats if you don’t fancy Sterling. The bowls are also, amazingly enough, dishwasher proof.

I also liked his Led Zepplin ladder “Stairway to Heaven”, a much more stable version of a domestic ladder that is attractive enough to leave in situ.
