The Strand Gallery was recently the venue for a mixed group show, Dawn, curated by Bernard Raphael Gallery so here is some of the work.
Storm Athill specialises in creating pictures from words. The piece above is of Johnny Cash in a deliberate James Dean pose. She mainly produces prints but these were the original images.
Lucy Temple is obsessed by pattern and colour. Her Islamic-inspired patterns are painstakingly hand drawn and painted.
Ivo Morrisson’s heads reminded me of Marlene Dumas, whose excellent show is currently on at Tate Modern. Josh Leon is a photographer about to begin an MA at the Royal College of Art. His photograph below of a wrecked car has an ambiguous hyper-real quality.
