The Sleep Event is Europe’s largest annual hotel design event with an exhibition, conference and the Sleep Sets. These room designs, always created in response to a brief, are for many the visual highlight and involve a huge amount of time and commitment from the participating companies.
The theme this year was “The Science of Tribes” devised by the Sinus Institute, an organisation specialising in psychological and social science research and consulting. Five very different architectural and interior design practices created a hotel room concept for each designated tribe. Here are a few photos from each reflecting their research and creativity. Note that each environment was built in less than 3 days.
WOW Architects designed for the Intellectual tribe
while Aukett Swanke created Bivouac for the Sensation-Oriented tribe.
Gensler worked with the Digital Avantgarde tribe
Mitsui Designtec were allocated the Established tribe
and Studio Proof had the Performers to design for.
There is no way I can describe all the Tribes or concepts in this blog so please click on the links provided to discover more. It’s a fascinating game and you may recognise aspects of yourself in each tribe.
