It’s always enjoyable visiting The Other Art Fair as, when I’m not exhibiting there myself, I get the chance to wander around and chat with other artists.
First-time exhibitor Louisa Boyd was the only artist who both my friend and I loved. His taste is almost the polar opposite of mine so this was quite an achievement.
Rich with references to science, nature and exploration her beautifully crafted geometric shapes, while quietly present, influence their surroundings. Just look at those shadows.
At first glance these looked like porcelain. I then realised they were printed and folded paper, reminding me of the work of Francisca Prieto .
The panels are made of polyhedron by-products, pieces left over after making the shapes. Everything is saved then used when the time is right.
These sheets below are the material used to make her shapes. Intriguing even before being cut up, these ones are like old navigation charts.
