It’s nice to be invited to events and the Jaguar one at the Farmiloe Building was no exception, particularly as an unexpected connection came to light.
Jaguar approached the automotive and textile design departments of the Royal College of Art to create a joint exterior and interior form study expressing their vision of future Jaguar design language. Nine pairs of students came up with some fascinating concepts and the winners, Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller, showed this piece with light and texture as their starting point..
My unexpected connection was Alexandra Palmowski, a recent RCA graduate, who was part of a discussion on the changing face of car design. It was only when I saw her work that I realised she’d been one of the students I’d interviewed for the NEWH Scholarship last year. Her textiles were noticed by Jaguar and she’s now working in their innovation department.
I look forward to seeing how her work progresses in this context.
