One of the favourite elements of Decorex for me is Future Heritage where I sometimes see work from makers I first noticed as students, including Sebastian Cox and Tanya Gomez.
Marcin Rusak though, was new to me. He comes from generations of horticulturalists and works with the impermanence of flowers. This screen, for example, is composed of resin encased flowers, the sliced material cut and arranged to produce an exquisite 2-panelled screen. The result references archaeology and fossils amongst other themes.
As ever I always want to see things close-up and even suggested he incorporate a magnifying glass into the design for closer viewing. Not sure how he took my suggestion.
His investigations have this year earned him the Perrier-Jouet Arts Salon Prize 2015 and Decorex Research in Making 2015.
