This was my first visit to the fair as I never used to be in England at this time of year. I loved seeing the wide selection of makers promoted by overseas as well as british galleries. There were many makers whose work I already knew but more who were new to me.
An “oh my God this is so beautiful!” maker for me was Steffen Dam, a danish glassmaker represented here by Joanna Bird Pottery www.joannapottery.com. He was so different from the other makers represented there that I had to check I had the right gallery.
I loved the clarity and subtlety of form and colour of the panels: transparent and totally 3 dimensional. I wasn’t the only one staggered by them. I could see them on a larger scale in a public building – they’d be fabulous in a hotel reception area.
Other notable craftspeople were Inger Johanne Rasmussen www.ingerjohanne.no showing through Galleri Format from Norway. The piece she had is attractive (see image above) but pays greater examination to reveal the care and complexity of the design.
A really inspirational show and wonderful for sourcing special pieces for domestic or commercial interiors. great for design ideas too.
