If you’re a home or gift buyer then this is definitely worth looking at. I came across Art House Meath at Top Drawer in September and was attracted by the childlike freshness and humour of the pieces on display.
Once I had stopped to find out more I was impressed as this is exactly what social enterprises need to be doing if selling their products. I mean this stuff is good, not just worthy like so much of what is still unfortunately “charity” stuff. No-one repeat-buys from pity: they can’t afford to. People buy if they like the work; the background is a great story and gives an added dimension but is secondary to the attractiveness of the product.
Anyway, here is a bit about the background. The adult artists all have learning difficulties of some kind, principally epilepsy, and work together or alone at the Art House producing artworks and designs expressing their view of the world. The project aims for financial self-sufficiency within the next 3 years.
There is a whole kitchen range in this cupcake design by Carolanne Gains.

PS The Dancing Men mug (shown above) is not yet in production – vote for your favourite design on the site and they’ll produce the most popular one. It isn’t an easy choice.
