I’ve been cycling as part of my daily exercise and, as the City isn’t far from me, went down to wander down all those little side streets and alleys where I found some of this year’s Sculpture in the City.
OK, so the first one is certainly not on a side street but it is an exception.
Bridging Home by Do Ho Suh is on the footbridge over Wormwood Street, normally one of the City’s busiest streets.
Down by the Gherkin you can find Reza Aramesh’s Site of the Fall- study of the Renaissance Garden 180: Action 180: At 9.15am Sunday 28th of May 1967 , a very long title for a sculpture that has resonances from many previous and ongoing conflicts.
It’s the contrast of material and subject matter which makes it so unsettling; how many marble statues do we have of victims and would we want to see them and be reminded if we did?
More to follow next week.
