These sculptures were unveiled a couple of years ago to honour the Windrush generation but this was the first time I’d had a proper look at them in situ.
Custard Apple, Breadfruit and Soursop are typical Caribbean fruit remembered from Veronica Ryan OBE‘s childhood visits to Ridley Road Market in Dalston, London.
These are accessible and relatable as both objects and as sculpture, fitting casually and easily into their setting.
They are not only relevant but also very pleasing to the eye, beautifully crafted.
Just look at the detail.
N.B. I hope whoever lost their keys found them again.
