Pelicans and Parrots Black is the second shop for partners Ochuko and Juliet in this rapidly-changing stretch of Stoke Newington Road. Their first store, Pelicans & Parrots, opened in 2010 selling fashion with some accessories. Ochuko, a former buyer, and Juliet, textile designer decided that Dalston needed a “proper” shop to cater for the customers visiting the new bars and cafes.
This shop, with its chalkboard walls, has much more of a home feel than their first one with furniture and accessories sourced from around the world alongside carefully selected vintage fashion. They’re really friendly too which is a big plus in my book.
Aimed at the kind of customer who likes to stay in every now and again, it is a great addition to the retail mix in this part of London. A local cafe owner was buying pieces for his place down the road while I was there.
