Roads aren’t something I find particularly fascinating most of the time but I really wanted to share these images with you. I hadn’t ridden into the West End for exercise during the shut-down, but after cycling to a friend in West London, he urged me to go as it was so strange and I’m glad I followed his advice.
This was my view of Marble Arch from the Edgware Road with The Orphans, a sculptural installation of 21 elephants, on show there till the end of this year.
Looking down Oxford Street towards Centre Point with empty buses and other cyclists
I was surprised to see Debenhams the only department store with boarded up doors – all the others had metal grilles.
I think this one of Oxford Circus has to be the favourite shot – bear in mind this was a Bank Holiday Saturday lunchtime and normally packed with traffic and shoppers.
At the other end now: the view from Tottenham Court Road looking towards Marble Arch.
Despite the current situation I’m glad to have had this experience without the pollution, traffic and crowds. Oxford Street was, for many years, part of my twice-daily commute, with a full mask against the pollution.
