Looking for a decadent-feeling place for a drink (or more) in Central London? Then L’oscar is the place for you. From the back-lit onyx bar and mirrored ceiling of Café L’oscar
to the alabaster birds perched around the place, this hotel exudes a delightful loucheness – in a luxurious way, of course.
The hotel’s strapline – “every saint has a past: every sinner a future” – captures the atmosphere pretty well with a wide choice of dining, meeting and sleeping.
Note the Lalique taps in the loos with more birds.
To think this used to be the London headquarters of the Baptist church. Carefully restored, many of the original details remain including overmantels illustrating scenes from the Pilgrim’s Progress; this one is Freedom from Sin.
I loved the stairwell going up 7 floors too.
The listed interior of the library is a characterful place to hire – I’d definitely accept almost any invitation to come here. And this is all before you reach a bedroom where, in this case, the bathroom is concealed behind a giant salon-style screen. I told you it was decadent…Many thanks to the charming Michael Voigt for showing us around.
