This ongoing project, seen during my recent trip to Cuba, initially began in artist José Fuster’s house in the Havana suburb of Jaimanitas over 20 years ago, and has gradually spilt out into the streets of his neighbourhood. His home is the centrepiece, a totally immersive environment of crazy mosaic and painting
Fuster has blended influences from Picasso, Gaudi and Wilfredo Lam amongst others to create something uniquely Cuban and very personal. The exuberance and inventiveness is quite overwhelming and I defy anyone to experience this without breaking out into a broad smile.
Every possible surface has been covered.
Looking out from a roof terrace you can see more mosaic creeping around the surrounding buildings.
