Getting artwork framed is a regular subject for discussion amongst artists. Yes, of course there are good ready-made frames on the market but they cater for the everyday. As a professional artist I collaborate with other experts to present my work in the best possible way and to protect it for a very long time.
Whilst I have a great framer for smaller pieces I’ve been on the lookout for a framer who can manufacture on a large scale, something I need mainly for commissioned art. So I leapt at the chance to visit North London Framing as a member of the artist’s network ArtCan.
I had never seen the multiple processes and stages required to make a bespoke frame. It’s a highly skilled craft – I can now see where the money goes.
Here are photos of some of the processes involved in making a bespoke frame for a small study of mine on handmade Khadi paper.
The piece in these photos is one of a pair now available for sale beautifully framed at £325 each. Please DM for further details.
