I don’t normally write about hyper-luxury brands but this caught my eye, partly because it’s the rebirth of a brand which closed, like so many others, in the mid 1970’s.
Moynat was a luxury luggage brand which became famous for its bespoke travel trunks for the new automobiles. Their trademark curved bases ensured a perfect fit on the car roof and matched the colour too. Technical innovations including complete waterproofing and lightweight construction ensured practicality as well as luxury.
Pauline Moynat added handbags to the luggage range and the archives, collected from around the world, have formed the inspiration for current designs.
The brand has now been relaunched with an exquisite shop on Rue St. Honoré. I was impressed by the light weight and flexibility of the handbags whose designs are really well thought-out. I was able to squash one tucked under my arm without any distortion and the craftsmanship was a joy to experience.
Is this the perfect classic handbag?
