White Noise Projects is a collective of artists which organises regular shows: this one, Shift, was at The Crypt Gallery on Euston Road.
It’s an atmospheric venue, very different to the white cube experience of many galleries. Some of the artists were known to me but it’s always interesting to learn about new people and to see new work.
I’m a big fan of Annamarie Dzendrowskyj , one of the founder members, whose paintings evoke an other-worldly space.
Stephen Greenberg was new to me. His shimmering expanses of colour on found materials vibrated in the space.
Jennifer Talbot created Tiepolo’s Sky, a piece of overlaid colours and shapes in one of the alcoves.
The interplay of materials has always fascinated me so of course I picked up on these works by Sandra Beccarelli
Hanna ten Doornkaat is a key organiser of White Noise Projects and I’ve followed her practice for several years. Initially working on hard surfaces she has more recently been experimenting with fabric and stitching. Here are some of her small indigo denim works.
This painting by Felicity Swan sang out to me which was unexpected – it’s always good to be surprised.
