I was lucky to catch this show Natural Frequencies by Tracy Hill at White Conduit Projects and attended the artist’s talk which gave a real insight into her work.
Listening to the rhythms of the earth, how water and ground interact and making this invisiblity visible are some of the themes in her work.
She is interested in how we are affected by the natural environment in profound ways we’re unconscious of and explores this through the ancient skill of dowsing and the slow, painstaking techniques of lithographic printing and papercutting.
Her work can be appreciated on many levels which is something I see as a form of generosity. You can enjoy it aesthetically without knowing what it is about.
Her thoughtfulness pulls you in the more you look.
While the cutwork pieces are perhaps the most obviously dramatic works, her lithographs have an energy that resonates.
She too uses the gesture within her work, something else I connect with.
She has published a book, Porosity, which gives more information about her practice.
