Now that the 11th November has passed and the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation by ceramic artist Paul Cummins at the Tower of London is taken down, I looked back to my visit at the beginning of the project when the vomiting of blood red poppies was mainly from one of the windows.
They were only a trickle at the base of the walls at this stage but still very impressive at nightVery different from the final result (image below courtesy of the BBC)
My french grandfather fought in the trenches at Verdun and I grew up seeing his war photographs (that’s for another post) so I have a strong connection to this era.
