The entrance to William Kentridge at the Royal Academy.

It was only at my third visit to this exhibition that I really looked at the entrance display and was delighted with the playfulness as well as the complexity of the set-up.

The steps up to the show, the floor, walls, doors and even part of the clock were covered with small pieces of gaffer tape.

It may not look like much but think of the time and effort it must have taken to cut and stick all those little pieces down.

I hope lots of people notice it: as someone told me a long time ago: “every detail is not a detail”, a mantra I regularly repeat to myself.

Every aspect of a project counts so is worth taking trouble over.

And then to take it all off! I salute whoever installed and will remove it; I’m just glad it won’t be me.
