If you’re in Soho and looking for a different kind of exhibition space then I recommend Room 2.
Situated above Andrew Edmunds, the celebrated restaurant on Lexington Street, Room 2 is an intimate gallery run by Karsten Schubert.
The experience begins from the front door where you must press a buzzer to be admitted. Walking up two flights of stairs in a 1719 Grade II listed house and looking out of the windows to a dilapidated courtyard removes one from 21st Century London within seconds.
And Room 2 is where I saw For Your Eyes Only by Tess Jaray.
Jaray’s work is fiercely abstract. Her use of a circular base is a departure from previous really flat work on paper or canvas so I was intrigued to see these wooden roundels.
I like having to look hard then look again. What is the connection between the motifs? How do the colours relate to one another? how does the texture affect what we see?
