As some of you know, influences in my work include memories of my years in Asia. I am therefore always interested in work that reflects the sensibilities of different cultures.

The art of Takefumi Hori is one of these. Born and brought up in Japan, he has lived in Brooklyn, New York for almost 2 decades and now views himself as an American artist.

Seijaku can be defined as a state of energised calm and this solo show, SEIJAKU at Fiumano Clase, aims to capture that combination of tranquillity and fizzing energy.

Shapes are simple with multiple layering and mark-making animating the canvas. It vibrates with energy.

This disc is almost shaking itself apart.

And this painting looks like a serially scratched and worn wall.

It’s as if New York is beginning to dominate.
