It’s always interesting to learn more about an artist’s work and this exhibition of Sophie Taeuber Arp at Tate Modern, the first retrospective held in the UK, gives a comprehensive survey of her short career.
Respected during her lifetime as one of the foremost modernist artists and designers, she rejected any division between art and design, working equally comfortably in wood, textiles, glass, sculpture and paint.
Here are just a few photos showing the range of her output.
She was very keen to emphasise the importance of play and experimentation within art and design, something I share as those who have taken my Play With Drawing workshops may recognise.
Examples here of experimentation with depth in both 2 and 3 dimensions.
