Where The Shadows Are So Deep – Imran Qureshi at The Barbican Curve

16/05/2016

The current exhibiton by Imran Qureshi at The Curve, Where the Shadows are so Deep is on till 10th July. The artist, trained in the tradition of miniature painting, responds to the huge space by placing his small pieces at different levels, spot-lit in the otherwise dark gallery.

He describes creating a narrative where the imagery gradually becomes darker and more monochrome. The violence in these beautifully executed paintings is quite shocking with attendant bloody splatters on the wall, floor and sometimes over the frames themselves

The work itself never less than exquisite.

Despite the destruction, the beauty of nature is still very visible.
