This was a close thing – I just managed to catch the Rana Begum show at Cristea Roberts then saw more of her work at Frieze before publishing this.
Rana Begum works with colour. That may sound rather simplistic but it’s actually very complex and I selected one of her recent pictures in an attempt to illustrate some of the subtleties.
My camera was unable to capture what my eyes could see and the video I made was way too big so the photos will have to do.

Begum uses the simplest of premises: in this instance squares in three colours overlaid in a regular pattern.
It’s mad, isn’t it? And this was just one piece in a whole show.
