Here is very different work from two of last year’s graduates.
Danny Duquemin-Sheil of DDQ Design is now based in Newcastle but studied at Nottingham and his concerns include precision craftsmanship as well as our industrial heritage. He’s certainly in the right part of the country for that. He showed bags from former builders’ sacks which I have seen before from the developing world, but this is taken a step further and without the airmiles. I particularly liked the panniers.
The work of Kit Miles couldn’t be more different. His print designs for interiors are maximalist with very sophisticated colouring. A former Loughborough graduate (my old college), he went on to the RCA and now runs a studio producing ranges for companies in addition to his own. He was awarded the New Designers One Year On prize for week 2.
The new collection to be officially launched in the autumn includes some fabulous colouring – I didn’t take a photo of the one displayed on the back wall so visit his site to see more. In the meantime here are a couple of current designs.
