Michael Craig-Martin at the Royal Academy. Post 2 of 2.

09/12/2024

So this is what I was expecting from Michael Craig-Martin at the Royal Academy: massive doses of strong colour.

Look at how he has integrated some of his staple images into the classical architecture. Fabulous.

Everyday and anonymous objects take on a new importance when recoloured and expanded.

I liked the visual game on this display wall too. As a friend said, this work is very accessible, more so than the more conceptual pieces earlier in the show.

His take on some classic paintings reminds me of The Simpsons with the same irreverent mix of humour and admiration.

The final room features an installation with multiple objects dancing around the space, an inventory of household items.

I made a video but didn’t know how to embed it here. Sorry.
