I was lucky to catch Kate MccGuire‘s latest show, Lure, at All Visual Arts Gallery as I’d only ever seen photos of her work before. Her medium of expression is mainly feathers from pigeons, ravens, crows and magpies, all creatures often regarded by society as malevolent.
The experience was powerful: troubling, sensually gorgeous yet very unsettling at the same time. Repression, constraint, exploitation, I could go on…
The above photos only give you a hint of her work; I’d highly recommend a proper viewing but you can’t touch! I had to keep my hands firmly behind my back the whole time which was difficult and part of the experience.
