Jennifer Collier at Origin

Design and making happens over a period of time: anyone who wants a quick fix doesn’t understand or even respect the process. In the same way I like to talk about different designers and makers all year around, not just when I’ve seen their work.

I saw  Jennifer Collier at Origin which isn’t long ago but more will come concerning other makers over the next few weeks. I wasn’t able to talk to Jennifer at the show as she was fortunately too busy but here are a couple of pictures of her work.

We’ve seen butterflies, birds and shoes from maps and old magazines – Jennifer makes those but also produces typewriters and sewing machines, linking the imagery and text of her materials to the form of these machines of creation. The paper is treated like fabric and the pieces I saw were life-sized. I love the fact that it’s a double  celebration of making and rewards repeated examination.
