Now widely recognised for her importance to Abstract Expressionism, Imagining Landscapes, the Helen Frankenthaler exhibition currently at Gagosian in London shows fourteen paintings from 1952 to 1976, some of which have never been shown before.

I have included a detail shot for each painting shown as so much is about the paint and mark-making. I can only give a hint of the effect here.

There is a variety of technique and style on display and, as ever, I will only include a few images. Remember that these are all big canvases, at least 2 x 2m if not larger.

Moving from clear brush strokes with outlines to fluid areas of colour, they evoke an imagery that is not stated but alluded to.
