This exhibition was part of an ongoing project celebrating ground-breaking neurological research, innovative collaborations between artists, researchers and communities and the University of Central London‘s ambitious project in progress to build a world-class neuroscience centre.
The show explored how researchers and artists (I have only mentioned a couple here) working together can contribute to a deeper understanding of the brain. I have long been interested in neuroscience and how the disciplines of art and science together gain insights and possible solutions to seemingly intractable problems.
Annie Cattrell was commissioned to create several pieces for the new facility on 256 Grays Inn Road
Pleasure is a triptych showing specific areas of the brain activated by the emotion of pleasure.
Briony Campbell’s film, Maze, is inspired by a photo and story from lived experience of a rare dementia, Familial Alzheimer’s Disease and illustrates the erosion of memory over time.
All works in the show will be incorporated into the new building.
