Thanks to Tate Modern for this show, especially the revelation of Dora Maar’s later work, much of which was only discovered after her death.
I was already familiar with her Surrealist photography from the 1930’s and her relationship with Picasso (including her photos of the creation of Guernica), but the most exciting part for me was seeing work from the latter years of her life when she combined her two major strands of interest, manipulating photography and paint.
The large wall projections of small negatives at the end of the show were mesmerising. My pictures only give a hint of the variety of mark-making so, if you can, just sit in front of them in the last room and take them in.
Glorious.
