Circles wherever I look: at The Museum of London

20/04/2015

The first shape ever created using a line, the circle is in evidence in all societies from the very earliest stages of our existence. This struck me yet again on a recent visit to The Museum of London.  Here is evidence of a farm enclosure in Shepperton from 3600 BC

and a double- ditched enclosure dating from about 3700 BC

Later on (500s & 700s AD) and on a much smaller scale, look at these loom-weights used in the wool weaving process.
