Part of the Cotton: Labour, Land & Body exhibition at the Crafts Council Gallery, Brigid McLeer’s installation was especially moving for me.
I found this exhibition particularly interesting due to my personal and professional connection to the subject. I studied mixed-media textiles at art school and use fabric in my work today. Much of my time in Asia was spent with textile makers in India, Vietnam and China. The people we worked with though had much better working conditions.

McLeer’s piece reminded me of a shroud and resonated with its international and historical content.

Only a few factory events are commemorated here – enough though to give us pause for thought.

Never was so much owed.
